The Blue sisters have always been exceptional – and exceptionally different.

Avery, a strait-laced lawyer living in London, is the typical eldest daughter, though she’s hiding a secret that could undo her perfect life forever.

Bonnie was a boxer but, following a devastating defeat, she's been working as a bouncer in LA – until a reckless act one night threatens to drive her out of the city.

And Lucky, the rebellious youngest, is a model in Paris whose hard-partying ways are finally catching up with her.

Then there was Nicky, the beloved fourth sister, whose unexpected death left Avery, Bonnie and Lucky reeling.

When, a year later, the three of them must reunite in New York to stop the sale of their childhood home, they find that it's only by returning to each other that they can navigate their grief, addiction and heartbreak and learn to fall in love with life again.

Critic reviews

'The story of Avery, Bonnie, Nicky and Lucky is a healing balm to lost souls. Blue Sisters will unearth tenderness and heartache from spectacular depths within you, giving new dimensions to the word blue.' Xochitl Gonzalez, author of Olga Dies Dreaming

'I never imagined a novel about grief could leave me feeling so warm. Coco Mellors has crafted a richly textured tale of love, loss, and addiction in all its complexities. When I made it to the final page, I had tears in my eyes. I will be thinking about the Blue sisters for a long time.' Isabel Kaplan author of NSFW

Excellent

Really brilliant narrator. Heartbreaking and hard going in places like Cleopatra & Frankenstein but more redemption for the characters which you hope for.

Utterly absorbing

When I was half way through reading Mellor's debut novel "Cleopatra & Frankenstein" I knew I'd be first in line to read anything she writes in future. Blue Sisters did not disappoint. The depth of character development is outstanding, and I'm glad I chose to listen to the audiobook. This is the best audio narration I've come across, incredible performance and I found myself carving out any opportunity to listen throughout the day. 100% recommend!

The second listen was even better

This is a must. I’m writing this after a second listen. It hit the spot just as hard if not more. The story woven between the sisters is compelling and beautifully told. The narrator impeccable. It’s a book to absorb

The way the author has beautiful captured the often complicated but unique relationship between sisters.

I loves this book. I found it deeply moving, and enlightening. As a sister with a sister two years younger it was extremely relateble. The author has illustrated the often complex relationships between sisters and mothers, to such a degree that it helped me understand why myself and my sister have had difficulties with our relationship. I thought the narrator was also excellent. I've recommended it and might even have to read it as well now.

Enjoyed but narration difficult

A beautiful story about grief and family dynamics, superb characterisation. But I found the narration very difficult to listen to as it was read like a poem rather than a novel. Mostly monotone. I never got used to it.

Great writing, laboured story

Feel disappointed after finishing this book. There are moments of wonder and glimpses of the great book it could have been but it was literally held down by repetitive misery and protagonists over thinking, self obsession and weaknesses. I didn’t buy their rational and parental blame - maybe I’m the wrong generation ( baby boomer) to indulge them. But the writing carries you through.

Poor narration

The story of the sisters is gripping but the monotone and stilted narration make it a very hard listen… I fear I may not make it to the end
