Summary
Nothing is what it seems. Karl and Marte Vollan live in an isolated farmhouse in rural Norway. It seems like paradise, until suddenly it becomes a living nightmare. During the dead of winter, Karl tries to drive heavily pregnant Marte to hospital. But before he can get his car out of the thick snow and off their land, they are attacked by a hooded figure. The stranger is holding a hatchet, and it is covered in dark blood. Karl desperately tries to get them both away, but their attacker overpowers them. He escorts them back to their home, locks the doors, and cuts the phone lines. Suddenly Karl realizes he knows who he is. He knows he was committed to a mental institution. He knows he has broken out of prison. And he knows he is a convicted murderer. But does the attacker recognize Karl? Does he realize Karl is a retired policeman? As Marte's labor pains get increasingly worse, Karl becomes more and more desperate. There must be a way out. Why has the attacker targeted their farmhouse? Was it just a coincidence or is he here to kill them? Karl will do anything to save the lives of Marte and their unborn child. But how far will he have to go? And how long will it be before blood runs cold?

Short but a good listen
A sad story, a good listen on a rainy afternoon whilst doing the housework on my day off.

Is there some end missing?
Very unusual story and very sad. Somehow nobody really survived without any kind of wounds. Scandi noir is normally quite dark but this is something else. Maybe the story is too short to develop properly. I’m curious enough to try more from this author though.

please write more Sten
lovely short story and I'm disappointed that there has been nothing else written by Sten, the author.
I got confused with peoples names but it's only because they were Norwegian names and were not familiar to me. perhaps a few different voice changes may have helped me here.
Other than that I really enjoyed this audio.

A tense little story
I’m a big fan of Scandi noir and as this was free I was happy to give such a short story a listen. It is certainly packed with tension, very dark and in the end a very sad tale. I’m not sure I’d agree with the main protagonist when he says at the end that he didn’t actually hurt anyone but I did feel some sympathy for his story. There were a couple of scenarios that I questioned the likelihood of but overall a well written tale.

Felt sorry for the villain
I ordered this without noticing its duration. It's a short story, or film treatment; admittedly very tense. Simply could not stand Marta - okay, she is young and pregnant; but her monotonous distrust of the other characters got on my nerves.
