About this listen

One troop of beyond-Tier-1 operators gone completely off the reservation. One platoon of stalwart Army Rangers, pledged to protect them, but now pushed too far. A thousand tribes of enemy fighters who just want them all gone.

Black Squadron is a secret cadre within DEVGRU (a.k.a. SEAL Team Six), consisting of master sniper and recon experts who carry out sensitive and dangerous advance force operations (AFO) in the most lethal cesspools and ash-heaps around the war-torn globe. They are an elite within an elite (within an elite).

But now they are being deployed to the darkest heart of the last days of the blood-drenched Syrian civil war, where they are surrounded by thousands of Syrian regulars, dozens of head-hacking Islamist militias, the hardest of the hardcore ISIS and al-Qaeda remnants, fierce Kurdish Peshmerga freedom fighters, ruthless Iranian Qods Force agitators, as well as Putin’s hyper-lethal and utterly merciless pipehitters from Spetsnaz GRU.

They’ve also been saddled with a blocking force, a platoon of US Army Rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment - a unit that has fought in every US engagement from the invasion of Sicily to Black Hawk Down. The Rangers are upright, loyal, and never leave their brothers behind. But now the Rangers may be the only ones who can stop a rogue Black Squadron from leaving everyone bleeding out in the street, and also kicking off a shooting war between two nuclear powers.

Black Hawk Down meets Training Day in this explosive collision of two legendary special-operations units battling to survive and prevail in the most dangerous city on the planet.

Simply put Michael Stephen Fuchs is a genuis of the written form. Elevated on Audible by RC Bray to a god. This book, written as a screenplay is so simply awesome. If you have read or listened to it you need to have your brain looked at🔥

Different to the Arisen Series but still a great listen and could not put it down.

A Great Listen

Whilst Fuchs books will never appear on an academic's "one hundred before your die" list, they are remarkable in their perfect pacing and understanding of a genre which few authors do well. The dialogue switches seamlessly from considered and introspective to visceral and urgent, reflecting the mindset of the characters as their roles flip from human and personal to instinctive combat machines. Despite being drawn thinly, as everyone is on first meeting in real life, we have no doubt who are the good-guys and who are the bad-guys at any given moment; those positions switching rapidly even in a single sentence.
There is nothing deep or meaningful here, no lessons of morality, no hammering home delusions of social-justice - the story is better for their absence. Instead it is a masterclass in popcorn-paperback listening constructed around Heinlein's adage of the ultimate authority possessed of violence and the inevitability of remorse when meeting one's heroes. In other words, it is the perfect recipe for a "serious" action movie - the nine hours of colourful descriptions translating easily to two hours of "roller-coaster" over the top military pulp fiction.
Grab a hot-dog, a forty ounce soda, and let Bray's incomparable narration provide you with the guiltiest of pleasures.

This should be a movie.

Enjoyable and something different regarding corruption and what killing power can do and ones ability to do the right thing.

As a massive fan of the Arisen series (if you haven't listened to that you need to do that right now) this filled a gap left by that series.

Excellently read by RC Bray as usual, the pace of the story was bang on and the action kept on coming.

I hope we see another book in this series (I'll also gladly take another Arisen too if you reading this Michael)

Another excellent Book from Michael and RC.

Enjoyed this audiobook so much. The pace of action is frenetic and left me breathless at points. I've enjoyed all of the other books from this author and I've found RC Bray's narration the best

I couldn't recommend this and the Arisen series any higher.

Amazing
