Summary

Big Fat Negative (BFN) - a term commonly used on internet forums to refer to a negative pregnancy test.

Infertility can be a lonely journey. One in every six couples will struggle to conceive, but, despite this, many don't feel comfortable talking openly about their experiences and sharing what they are going through. As a result, they feel isolated and alone.

It doesn't have to be this way. By talking, laughing and shouting about our experiences, we can start to lift the cloak of shame that so often engulfs those going through it. Big Fat Negative does just that. This no-nonsense, honest guide to infertility from the hosts of the Big Fat Negative podcast smashes the taboo around this isolating and heartbreaking illness, offering first-hand experience, an understanding voice when friends don't get it, expert advice, reassurance for when you feel alone and - most importantly - humour when you need it the most.

Using first-hand accounts of the various hurdles of infertility, from work to diagnoses and IVF, coupled with advice from leading experts, Big Fat Negative will hold your hand on the not so simple journey to motherhood - helping you to face and defeat the trials of trying for a baby.

Critic reviews

"This book is totally brilliant - informative, sensitive, funny and wise. Reading it is like talking to a fairy godmother who also happens to be a gynaecologist and expert on all things fertility." (Sophia Money-Coutts)

Absolutely Loved It

Found myself laughing out loud so many times (unexpected given the topic). Loved the candor of the two writers and all whose stories were shared.

This book was very honest (not everyone will get a happy ending, yes you will feel like you are loosing your mind on the ‘journey’) but also managed to be uplifting. They also showcased the many different routes one can take when faced with infertility (including potential difficulties).

4 years into my infertility ’journey’ so I have read A LOT of books on the matter. This is one I definitely recommend.

If you’re clueless about IVF and infertility this is a must listen

I was absolutely clueless about Infertility so when my daughter who was going through IVF told me about a podcast she listens to I found the audible version. It was funny and very informative. Now I know about the unhelpful things that most people say, I know what those injections do and I understand the emotional process. I hope to be able to support her better. A big thumbs up for this book!

Wish I had read it earlier

As someone going through IVF I could relate to the stories told in so many ways, and as I start my next round it has made me feel like I am not alone.

Can’t recommend this enough

Having gone through an infertility ‘journey’, these ladies were amazing to listen to on their podcast ‘Big Fat Negative’. They gave me comfort to know that I’m not alone and I learnt a lot from specialists and other people they interviewed.
*Trigger* Having successfully conceived through IVF, I was interested to listen to their book. I wish it had been out when I was TTC. It will be a book I recommend to anyone on an infertility ‘journey’ as it gives you all the facts you need to know on a wide range of topics. The podcast would then be a great addition to listen to after the book as the topics discussed in the book go into greater depth in on their podcast.
Thank you for all your help ladies.
