About this listen

A riveting insider perspective from Ireland's former state pathologist, Marie Cassidy.

For over thirty years, bodies have been my business. The lucky ones have died peacefully in their own bed, surrounded by loved ones. But, life, or should I say death, is not always like that. This is your opportunity to duck under the police tape with me. Walk carefully in my footprints and follow me into the scene but don't touch anything, just look. Remember Locard's principle, every contact leaves a trace.

Marie Cassidy was Ireland's state pathologist from 2004 until 2018. During that time, she was involved in many high-profile cases, including the Stardust exhumation and the deaths of Siobhan Kearney, Rachel O'Reilly, Robert Holohan and Tom O'Gorman.

In Beyond the Tape, she invites us into the world of forensic pathology and shares her remarkable personal journey, from working-class Glasgow to becoming Ireland's head pathologist. A fascinating, behind-the-scenes account of real-life forensics, the intricate processes central to solving modern crime and the stories from behind the crime tape.

I loved the content and that Dr Cassidy performed it herself. The book is honest about her path of becoming a Forensic pathologist and she tells it as it is. She made me feel for the victims and that it is all about them and the truth about what happened to them.
Thank you Dr Cassidy

Brutally honest

Marie's accent is wonderful amd keeps you engaged. It is however a book that requires a certain kind of reader to stay engaged and entertained. You genuinely need a strong interest in the subject matter.
4 stars as there was some repetition which got mildly irritating even though I understood the reason for it.

I could not stop listening excellent, interesting and at times jaw dropping. sometimes I had to go back to listen to get the details in my head.would highly recommended it especially if from Ireland you will have heard of every case. not gruesome or depressing as I assumed it would be.so surprised at how humble and empathetic and small Marie is

I know that listening to the recollections of the state pathologist might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me I was transfixed. Brilliantly written and narrated by the brilliant Dr Marie Cassidy.
