Summary

It had to be now. Away from prying eyes. Now or never. The watcher’s focus adjusted quickly to the gloom. Harry was still gassing. ‘Always in the bag,’ he heard him brag. Well, you are going to be in a very different bag soon, thought the watcher. Harry said his goodbyes. This was it.

The murder of a promising footballer, son of Brighton’s highest-ranking police officer, means Detective Superintendent Jo Howe has a complicated and sensitive case on her hands. The situation becomes yet more desperate following devastating blackmail threats.

Howe can trust no one as she tracks the brutal killer in a city balanced on a knife edge of vigilante action and a police force riven with corruption.

excellent start to graham Bartlets literary career

really good book that I thoroughly enjoyed from an author who I have not read before. great story and I know Brighton well so it was easy to picture where everything that was described was. this was my first foray into audible books and although the narrator was good she was unable to do Geordie accents needed different voices for most if not all of the characters

Outstanding Debut Novel

What an outstanding debut novel - the attention to detail was superb and the involvement of the police officers families made it real. A brilliant story that keeps you gripped from page one - oh and a twist at the end!

Too many villains and weak willed characters!

None of the characters were well rounded, even the one good gal, as a listener, I did not feel I knew her. Personally, I prefer to have a sense that within the police force there are more good guys, whether this is a reality or not.
Not sure if I will buy another audio book from this author.

Intriguing plot with strong characters

Excellent plot line, good characterisation. The ending was stretching reality a bit too far perhaps.
