In 2013 Assata Shakur, founding member of the Black Liberation Army, former Black Panther and godmother of Tupac Shakur, became the first ever woman to make the FBI's most wanted terrorist list.

Assata Shakur's trial and conviction for the murder of a white State Trooper in the spring of 1973 divided America. Her case quickly became emblematic of race relations and police brutality in the USA. While Assata's detractors continue to label her a ruthless killer, her defenders cite her as the victim of a systematic, racist campaign to criminalise and suppress Black nationalist organisations.

This intensely personal and political autobiography reveals a sensitive and gifted woman, far from the fearsome image of her that is projected by the powers that be. With wit and candor, Assata recounts the formative experiences that led her to embrace a life of activism. With pained awareness she portrays the strengths, weaknesses and eventual demise of Black and white revolutionary groups at the hands of the state.

A major contribution to the history of Black liberation, destined to take its place alongside The Autobiography of Malcolm X and the works of Maya Angelou. Foreword written by Angela Davis.

I found this book to be an amazing listen. It is such an important part of history to be told and read.

The ones i recognize are hard to characterize but all their voices harmonize.

They are the ones in which rationalize and analyze,

seeking to organize in order to mobilize,

Fight for change that can modernize and equalize.

They are the ones who sought to decriminalize many whom are stigmatized those who were once colonized and yet continue to exist as a target to demonize and capitalize.

Those whom i recognize have the ability to empathize, There is no compromise as they live to civilize and humanize those who threaten a world in which my idols sought and seek to stabilize,

These are the ones i idolize, those you should recognize and familiarize as we live in a world in which the media seek to normalize, making us desensitize against the police that militarize as they legitimize their power to brutalize.

Some seek to destabilize in order to seek change to revolutionize.

From the way the story is written to the voice narrating, this was an amazingly important read. I know I will read it again and reccomend it onwards. Her story is an important one, like many.

Truly amazing read. Through her struggle we see hope, and Sirena voice truly embodies the emotions presented.

The narration was beautiful, the voice artist reading the book had soothing tone which helped during the retelling of the brutality and injustice that Assata has faced. The first chapter left me speechless and physically sick. Her treatment has been so inhumane that it is disturbing. As an author Assata has helped me to see that even now we have not moved forward. Chapter 14 n there is auite during the trial that literally mirrors the sentiments of the BLM movement I could compare the media propaganda surrounding lthe BLA movement is identical to that of the BLM movement. Would wholeheartedly recommend this book
