This is a wonderful and articulate story; so carefully observed - intimate and gentle; visceral and uncompromising.
I so liked the interludes of Blues singing - the French accents were borderline but the American voices felt perfect.

A tulry great book. The narrator is great...

until a French character is appears and it's like someone doing a comedy French accent. I started Giovani's Room but had the same problem and couldn't listen. Luckily the character isn't a key one here.

It would have been simple for clem fandango or whoever was behind the recording desk to point out that the accents are offensive. It's not Mind Your Language it's a James Baldwin novel. Come on Audible!

Anyway, it's a blockbuster of a book despite that. Epic and worthwhile.
