Not the greatest reader, the intonation was quite odd at times but the story, as always with the Anne series are just delightful.

Reader had great diction and was easy to understand

Oh my the narration of this audio book is terrible! It’s so hard to listen to! Sounds like someone with a northern British accent trying to hide it by putting on the strangest voice. There is emphasis in the oddest of places and the characters voices all sound the same so it’s really hard to follow. I am still listening because I want to follow all the books in the Anne series and this is the only one of this book.

The narration was so awful I would have given up on it had I not been following the whole Greeen Gables series! Story not as good as the previous books.

absolutely dreadful narration

This is the 4th in the Anne series and although not the best of them it should be an enjoyable read. It was when I read it as a physical book in the past.
However it is really spoiled by the narration! The narrator’s voice is not quite right or natural - the intonation is wrong, there’s an overemphasis almost of suspense and the tone of voice makes it very dreary. Even funny sections didn’t come over as such. The only positive was that I could hear every word - but it was very difficult to know who was speaking.
This is such a shame as its the only version available of this book! Please Audible add a better version.

Even if you like Anne, worth giving this one a miss. It’s not that cheery a story, and the narrator absolutely ruins any flow to the point that it’s hard to understand what’s going on.

I had to stop listening to this audible book after half hour. The narration is truly awful! The narrator has the most irritating voice and awful way of reading…truly painful for my ears! Such a pity as I love the ANNE GREEN GABLES series.

After reading the reviews of the narration of this story I was loathe to pay money for this title. I was pleasantly surprised, clear narration & certainly not as bad as some I’ve listened to! I am working my way through a the Anne books as I missed out on them in my younger days. This one was as magical as all the others.

A much loved story badly narrated. Im not sure what accent was being attempted but it certainly wasnt canadian. The uneven pace and the terrible pronunciations just added to the disappointment of this audio book. 😔

I read the reviews but thought the criticism would simply be based on preference. Perhaps it is, but I am finding it difficult to listen to it. It’s not just that the voice is ‘older’ than Anne, but it’s breathy, with strange pauses where there is meant to be no pause. The words are spoken irritatingly slowly but speeding it up only emphasises the way that the narrator structures the sentences . It is almost like a non-English speaker with an exaggerated British accent is reading the book aloud. Audible offers no other version of this fourth Anne book in English at the time I wrote this review. I am determined to get to the end of this wonderful series but I hope in time they release a version with another narrator.
