Summary

From the Sunday Times best-selling author

Four friends, two crushes and a secret....

After a bruising divorce, headstrong Juliet Miller invests in a flat and advertises for a flatmate, little believing that in her late 30s she'll find anyone suitable. But along comes self-employed copywriter Floz, raw from her own relationship split, and the two woman hit it off. When Juliet's twin brother, Guy, meets Floz, he is overcome with a massive crush, just as his friend Steve develops the hots for Juliet. But being a shy, gentle giant, Guy communicates so clumsily with Floz as to give her the opposite impression. Can he turn Floz's affection for his family into love for him? And then Juliet makes a discovery, which will turn their lives upside-down....

Great story for a wonderful time of the year.

I love listening to stories that reflect the time of year we are currently in. This is the third one from this author I have listened to now. It was a nice heartwarming story about new love, old and new friendships and the funny way that life has of surprising us when we least expect it. This story touches on the topic of online dating and now uncertainty this can bring.
Although I loved this book, I feel that it ended a little too abruptly for my liking but it was still a great story.

Heart warming

A heart warming autumnal story with excellent narration. I found the story mildly unbelievable at times, but then I guess that’s why it was a story! Would definitely recommend xx

Riveting enough to read again and again

This is one of my favourite Milly Johnson reads and I love all of her books! The characters are so rounded in this story that you are totally rooting for them all throughout. There is the Milly mix of heartbreak, heartache, laughs, loves and happiness. A great story which really has it all.

Feel good and funny.

I completely love this book, it’s wholesome and I can feel the autumn energy from it. Not a lot of books give off the Christmas/autumn feel like they intend to, but this one does.

Only two things I’d complain about. (Spoiler)

Floz’s reactions to things and the “prolonged” miscommunication.

When done right, miscommunication isn’t that bad, it can even be funny. For example (you deserve each other by Sarah Hogle). It was before it dragged on so far and so long that it almost ruined my enjoyment of the book. It became unfunny and just began to irritate me.

I’m all for slow burn, but it can occur without unnatural and insignificant interruptions that only serves to deter any progress between the love interests. For example, in chapter 56. It just felt unnecessary.

I didn’t like floz all that much. At first her reactions to Guy being an idiot was amusing but in chapter 83 (I think) when she completely iced him out, out of nowhere, really deflated her character for me. It seemed too overdone at that point and the miscommunication between them felt too unnatural. At first, the flow of miscommunication was lighthearted, funny, even quirky. I could digest it, but at some point it just became too much for me to handle.

If they had just realised their feelings by chapter 84, we could have gotten more than a rushed ending between them. Floz made too many assumptions. If they were nipped in the bud by the time he came to help her after she was drunk, the time he shared about Lacey, the book would have been better for me. That was the perfect time for them to have their Steve/Ju moment, but somehow their relationship kept going rocky.

Even then, I can’t say I won’t reread the book. It has a warm feeling to it. Steve and Ju’s relationship, how it developed is what will bring me back for a re read. It was the best plot in the book and i wish guy and floz has the same attention.

The Nick storyline is a hit or miss, I found it interesting and I’m glad they didn’t focus on Flozs ex husband too much. I’m glad they didn’t try and introduce any of their exes and they were just passing conversations. If she had tried to stuff more plots in, the book would have been too overwhelming. But right now, it’s good as it is. I’ll definitely be reading more of the series.
