A little happy ever after and I would have liked more depth to the characters and storyline. It’s a one off book not a series which might explain the lack of depth.

good story, good intro to a completely new story-universe, interesting characters and plot, but there's not a good build or description of feel for the characters attractions so it feels a little like there were some sections missing when they started getting together. the social rules of the new world is overly described in people's conversation, witch feels forced and unnatural and the wrap up at the end feels like the author was in a hurry to just finish instead of writing some extra chapters to make the plot unfurl .

A brilliant story of love and intrigue with a unique tableau of characters and powers mixed in between . I hope there will be more in the series . Brilliantly narrated bring the characters to life .

This is a book written in 1996, set in a future, on a planet similar but different to earth. The Human population has thrived and has evolved paranormal abilities. Amaryllis is a Prism talent, someone who focuses for other psychic talents. Lucas is a top businessman with secrets and an off-the-charts talent.
This was a good read. Fun, fast, witty and very readable. I can't say it will rock the literary world but the characters were likeable and quirky and the setting well imagined. It is clearly a foretaste of later Harmony and Rainshadow novels but is interesting for the differences and as always the romance at the heart of the book is spiced with murder, mystery and intrigue. If you like romances to be a bit different this might be for you. There are 2 others in this mini-series both are also worth reading.

I listened to this book on audible as a bit of light relief from the Lockdown and on-going Covid stressors.
My review from 6 years ago still stands and despite its flaws and some inconsistencies it is still a good listen. The narration was very good with reasonable differentiation between characters.

Two centuries before a wormhole had opened up between earth and St Helens. It closed as suddenly it had appeared but not before it had been populated by human settlers leaving them trapped with no way of returning home. Gradually the settlers begin to develop psychic like powers will living lives governed by almost victorian type standards. Amaryllis is the first book in the St Helens series and it’s an quick, fun listen if you like stories with alpha heroes and unconventional heroines . A bit dated perhaps but I think the St Helens trilogy was a forerunner for this author’s Rainshadow and Arcane series. The narration by Tanya Eby felt a bit off and I had to slow it down from my usual speed but once I got into the story it was OK
