Summary

Jamie and Andrew are strangers, and two of the last people left alive. They don't know what they'll find on their perilous journey ... but they may just find each other. A queer romance about courage, hope and humanity—this is How I Live Now with the heart of Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda.

When the Superflu wipes out most of the population, Jamie finds himself completely alone in a cabin in the woods—until an injured stranger crosses his path.

Life is dangerous now and, armed with a gun, Jamie goes to pull the trigger. But there's something about Andrew ... something that stops Jamie in his tracks. Jamie takes him in, and as Andrew heals and they eventually step out into the strange new world, their relationship starts to feel like more than just friendship ...

But trouble isn't far behind. As the boys make a perilous journey south, they'll come face to face with a world torn apart and society in ruins. And who, or what, will they find waiting for them at the end of it all?

"Tense, exciting, sometimes heartbreaking and always romantic, All That's Left in the World explores what it means to hold onto hope and humanity when the worst case scenario becomes reality. With characters you'll adore, and a fast-paced, mysterious plot that keeps you turning the pages as fast as you can devour them, this book is not to be missed." (Sophie Gonzales, author of Only Mostly Devastated)

"Brown has somehow achieved a book that is romantic, hilarious, warm-hearted, hopeful and page-turningly thrilling all at once. I was hooked from beginning to end." (Dahlia Adler, author of Cool for the Summer)

"A timeless love story that could not be more appropriate for this moment, All That's Left in the World is a thrilling, heartfelt and beautifully written debut." (Tom Ryan, author of I Hope You're Listening)

Good - But, Not Special!

Overall the book was enjoyable and the performance was excellent; the end was something of an anticlimax and a little predictable - unless the author intends revisiting this work.

The real issue isn't specifically with this book, it applies to almost every book in this category; the two chief protagonists, in this case Andrew and Jamie, are alway very similar in outlook and world-view; they think broadly the same on anything important and have the same attitude(s), almost without nuance, on very major topic. The difference, in personality, are superficial at best. There are differences but they are invariably domestic/family background, economic status or physical.

It would be a deal more interesting if authors could produce characters who believe different things rather than these 'cookie-cutter' creations. Obviously books in this genre will, naturally, have characters who like/love one another; but, is it really so difficult to imagine a world wherein people can love each other despite fundament differences in views.

Great story!

I loved how the author brought this story to life! The post apocalyptic setting and the characters surviving a changed and unforgiving world was captivating. Also loved the LGBT representation and found this story overall a fantastic read/listen and I would highly recommend it.

Incredible

This is just…incredible. I haven’t been able to stop listening. It makes me so happy to see queer representation in a story so good.

Really loved this book

Very gripping story with lots of twists, loved every moment but would have loved it more if the romance progressed a bit faster.

I loved it!

The writing was cute and endearing, I usually am not into books with a first person point of view however i loved it in this case as it added to the cute character moments between characters. I'm a huge fan of the post apocalyptic genre, so it's nice to finally have some LGBTQ representation! however it does more than tick a representation box and is a genuinely sweet love story with a nice build up of longing between the two characters.
The novel handles more serious issues well, touching on social issues as well as the devastation of a post apocalyptic scenario, but managed to be very funny and cute at times. so the author handled the contrast between the dark scenario and events with the cuteness and lightness of the characters.
The voice acting for the dual protagonists was also excellent with the actors chosen really adding the characterisation of both Andrew and Jamie!
the love story is also great, with the build up being very satisfying. I often hind with gay love stories when a more effeminate gay guy is paired with a more stereotypical masculine before this straight guy the romance can be quite flat, with the author brushing over the self discovery of attraction, or can make the straight acting gay kinda a Mary sue that is always right and rational. Jamie is a great character but he does have flaws that ad to his character and his realisation of his feelings for Andrew was very cute and well executed
Overall I would highly recommend this book, interesting world, sweet characters and Great voice acting

Amazing story

The first audiobook I've listened to! The performance was great and a lovely story. Although I'm older it still captivated me. I'm listening to Wranglestone now and would recommend that too!!

Loved it!

Finished in 2 days, I enjoy a good apocalypse story and this one was even better because it has queer representation! I've alway missed that in other stories and this one is cute and doesn't follow the "Bury the gays trope", I'm glad a saw the ad on tictok. Well worth the listen!
