Summary
Welcome to the Historic McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop-where life is sweet, revenge is sweeter, and murder is here to to stay....
You can't fudge an alibi.
Allie McMurphy is up to her neck in renovations at the grand old hotel that's been in her family for generations. With its quaint Victorian charm - and world-famous fudge shop - the place is one of Mackinac Island's most beloved landmarks.
Sure, every family has a skeleton or two in the closet. But Allie didn't expect to find an actual corpse inside hers, especially one Joe Jessup, who had a long-running feud with her dear departed grandfather. Which makes Allie the number-one suspect.
Can she sniff out the culprit before another victim checks in?

Great story and great listening
Excellent reading and narrated brilliantly. The puppy was brilliant and kept me wanting to hear more of his heroism.

A sweet mystery
I enjoyed this book. Although the recipes got annoying, luckily they were at the end of chapters and could easily be skipped. Otherwise it's a fun book with an adorable puppy to keep you entertained. The rest of the characters were quirky but like able, even if they were very opinionated. There was a lot of characters and as it is the first book in the series you were introduced to most, good job it's a small island. Luckily the story is well written and it wasn't confusing, like it can be when introduced to a lot of characters at once and then forgetting who everybody was. The choosing of sides of teams helped and made it fun. For the record I am on team green, any team that has a dog gets my vote. There is also the required love triangle and the question of who she will end up with. The mystery while not the main focus was interesting with a few twists and surprises along the way. The main character didn't really do much investigating as too busy trying to get her hotel and fudge shop up and running but I actually enjoyed that side of the story.
When her grandfather dies Allie inherits his hotel and fudge shop. Which isn't A surprise because she had been training to take over her whole life, she just thought she would have more time to learn the ropes from from him. What does come a surprise is the dead man in her closet. The whole town takes sides by choosing to wear ribbons showing off who they support, the murder victims family or Allie who many see as an outsider despite spending all her summers on island. With most of the people wanting Allie arrested for murder, Allie knows that renovating the old historic hotel might be easier then proving her innocence. Especially with all the secrets her grandfather kept.
