About this listen
No wonder she's been crowned 'Queen of Cosy Crime' Mail on Sunday
Agatha Raisin's detective agency has become so successful that she decides to take time off for rest and relaxation. But as soon as she does, she remembers that when she does have time on her hands, she doesn't know what to do with it. So it doesn't take much for the vicar of a nearby village to persuade her to help publicise the church fete - especially when the event organiser, George Selby, turns out to be a handsome widower.
Agatha brings out the crowds for the fete all right, but there's more going on than innocent village fun. Several of the offerings in the jam-tasting booth turn out to be poisoned and the festive entertainment becomes the scene of two murders.
Along with her young assistant, Toni, Agatha must lift the lid on the jam tampering, see to the safety of the church funds, and root out the nasty secrets lurking in the village. Quite a tall order while she is attempting to flirt with gorgeous George, who probably has a few secrets of his own!
Very entertaining

If you're after page-turning, white-knuckle, extreme thrillers or whodunnits then Mrs Raisin is not for you; if you enjoy Murder She Wrote, Poirot and Stephanie Plum them this is probably right up your alley. Gentle, enjoyable and comforting rather than stupa ting and challenging; I've meanly held off one star on storyline as there are no massive surprises in an Agatha Raisin (mostly because there's a limited number of new characters in each one so it's always one of them for some reason or another!) but fans of Aggie will know that this isn't the appeal or the point - highly recommended for a grey winters day; stick it on, curl up with a cuppa and relax in your Jim-jams... Perfect!
Curl up, grab a cuppa and relax

'A Spoonful of Poison' is another classic Agatha Raisin story full of various village affairs, Mrs Bloxbly's wisdom, some amateurish blundering, some brilliant deduction (mainly by Toni) and a lot of Agatha's complaining about the smoking ban. And, naturally, it all starts with a village fête and Agatha's immature obsession with a man. Despite the aforementioned obsession, however, Agatha is clearly growing up. Reluctantly and at a glacial pace, but still.
I enjoyed this light and cosy mystery immensely.
