Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

What happens when we die?

Ten percent of people whose hearts stop and then restart report near-death experiences. Stories of lights, tunnels and reunion with late loved ones have been relayed - and dismissed - since ancient times. But when Dr Bruce Greyson's patients started describing events that he simply could not dismiss, he began to investigate.

In After, he shares the scientific revelations of four decades of research into the dying process. He has become increasingly convinced that dying is less an ending than a transition, the threshold between one form of consciousness and another. Dr Greyson challenges us to consider what these lessons can teach us about the relationship between our brain and our mind, expanding our understanding of consciousness and of what it means to be human.

This audiobook includes three bonus interviews with the author.

Superbly researched and written

I've read many books about NDEs and this one by Dr Bruce Greyson is the most thoroughly researched and inspiring I've read so far. Dr Greyson has raised the bar with his research and writes with such warmth and humanity. I especially enjoyed his thoughts and questions about consciousness and interviews with other eminent researchers and experiencers. The book is read with passion and warmth...the narator was clearly inspired and said so afterwards in an interview with Dr Greyson.
This book is a must for every human who has a soul...ie everyone!

Amazing book and I never right reviews

This is a complete Balance between science and documented storytelling . I worried at the beginning that it would be too science driven , but I think this is a brilliant book for people who are are open to science and and are open to spirituality. I have recommended this to some of my more sceptical friends in the hope that they will listen. I find the Idea that out brain maybe only a be an instrument for our mind, and that the mind doesn't need the brain to continue and actually limits us to help us as humans fascinating . This is a life times work as well, I hope it's reviewed well I think it's amazing and well worth listening to. It can be so hard to find a good book and this definitely is. It's a book that you will learn and grow but. As long as you listen to the end, and after all a life time of research deserves the respect to get to the end.

A refreshingly open-minded account of NDEs

A very interesting and open-minded scientific account of Near Death Experiences. The implications of NDEs are discussed in a thoughtful manner.

40 years of insights

Excellent addition to the NDE cannon by one of the best informed voices on this subject. With decades of front line experience this is an important work. As is to be expected a major part of each chapter relies on anecdotes to support findings. Very accessible with appropriate nods at the science . The additional 'chats' at the end of audio book were a nice touch. Would have been nice to have an expanded look at how neuroscience is coming on board with the work of Bruce and his colleagues at Virginia. The cover graphic is inspired and should be used as a symbol for NDE's

Very insightful

I read an article about this book that lead me to downloading the audiobook version. This was a great introduction to the world of NDE’s and I was fascinated with all the experiences he had gathered from firsthand sources throughout his profession. I will recommend this book to everyone. Although the narrator sounded a bit too robotic the content made up for it and kept me hooked.
