Summary

The fourth book in the best-selling Chronicles of St Mary's series which follows a group of tea-soaked disaster magnets as they hurtle their way around History. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.

Sometimes, surviving is all you have left.

Max and Leon are safe at last. Or so they think.

Snatched from her own world and dumped into a new one, Max is soon running for her life. Again.

From a 17th century Frost Fair to Ancient Egypt; from Pompeii to 8th century Scandinavia; Max and Leon are pursued up and down the timeline, playing a dangerous game of hide-and-seek, until finally they're forced to take refuge at St Mary's where a new danger awaits them.

Max's happily ever after is going to have to wait a while....

Thoroughly enjoyed it

A new take in a new universe. Great reboot to some of the storylines while staying totally in the space of the other books. Really enjoyed it.

More rollicking historical indulgence!

Like all St Mary's books, it's basically an excuse for Jodi Taylor to wrap an adventure and some romance around random historical events.
As another history / archaeology geek this suits me fine and I enjoyed the alternate reality twist in this book.
I have a couple of gripes about pronunciation in the narration - but these may have been typos in the script - but where a historically significant volcano is involved, please change proclastic to pyroclastic!

Another great story

I am working my way through the adventures of St Mary's and am enjoying them very much. This story, although very good, was not as engaging as the others, but still very good. The narration is excellent.

Another Winner!

I cannot explain how much i enjoy these books! The story of Max, Leon and friends is so engrossing, i love them as if they were real life friends......lol. I usually listen while walking the dog and become so engrossed i have many times laughed out loud in the street!! I must get some very strange looks. Once again the narration by Zara Ramm is faultless, i don't think St. Mary's would be the same without her!!! Another 5 stars from me. 👍

Back to St Mary's for another fabulous tale

Jodi Taylor and Zara Ramm combine again for another fabulous romp through time. Max is actually dead but Mrs Partridge has seen to it that that doesn't stop her. Arriving in Leon's flat from a different time line in which she has actually died, Max finds Leon still not recovered from her loss and no longer at St Mary's. In this time though, messing about with History has new consequences, and the pair find themselves on the run from the Time Police. In a new place with no friends, how will Max manage to save herself and her beloved St Mary's?

I think it you're at this stage, you know what the St Mary's books are about and if you'll want to listen to them all. I know and I do because I love them; the characters are fabulous and the settings amazing and I enjoy them all the more for the gorgeous and sympathetic narration provided by the brilliant Zara Ramm. This is yet another great installment and won't disappoint. Highly recommended!

good read.

As always I enjoyed this book. The tangles that Madeline Maxwell gets herself into are delightfully improbable. This book is a little more violent than the other books but I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Wonderful funny, quirky, fast-paced stories!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I began listening to the first in the series, but was soon totally enthralled! Each story in the St Mary's series is brilliant, taking us through sadness, delight, humour - leaving us breathless .. and wanting MORE!
