About this listen
All Delora ever wanted was to disappear.
Thrown into the Veil for a crime she committed, Delora was discarded by the world. Although afraid of her oncoming demise, she accepts it as it would be a worldly escape from her problems. She didn’t expect that she would wake up from her deadly fall, nor that the person who saved her would be a Duskwalker.
She’s wary about him at first, but Delora begins to realise there’s more to him than just a faceless monster.
All he ever wanted was a name.
After discovering that humans can be kept as companions, he begins planning for the day he finds his own bride. He still lacks humanity and there is much to learn first. One morning when leaving his cave, a human suddenly crashes into him from the sky. Broken and sleeping, he gets to work on healing the woman.
It doesn’t take him long to understand she’s wounded in a way his magic can’t heal.
But will he be able to gain her affections, or will she come to hate him as he stumbles his way through learning about her – and more importantly, himself?

This book brings in a character who is both easy and challenging to empathise with. So many insecurities we deal with, especially as plus sized people.
The MFM really challenges any internalised misogyny we may harbour, what we think are acceptable actions for different genders.
The narration of the MFM was a little grating at times but overall this book is a wonderful next installment for this series. I look forward to what happens next!
Oh, and the spice is still top notch!
The world building continues beautifully

My main issue with the audiobook is the female narrator. Her voice when performing Deloras dialogue was whinny and baby-ish. It was high pitched, squeaky and really bizarre. Delora is definitely flawed and can be judgmental and sometimes a little unintentionally cruel in her words and thoughts but this voice actor made her seem consistently whinny and moan-y. It was very annoying to listen to and made Delora come across as much more childish and pathetic than she actually was. Plus, neither Americans could say ‘arse’ which did sometimes take you out of the spicy scenes and cringe a little.
Great story overall but the narrator of Delora somewhat spoiled the listening experience.
Beautifully character driven story

Be warned, it is absolutely nothing like the first book! This book just felt like I was getting a lesson about gender pronouns, mental health and plus size body acceptance. Like it was trying to be inclusive of everything and I didn’t have the patience for it lol. Felt like the author was trying to appease every single gen Z/X reader out there. The only reason I bought the book was to follow the ongoing world development since there was obviously a lot that’s yet to happen. If all the books are gonna be so vastly different, they’re obviously not going to appease to all readers - for that reason they should have been standalone books.
Towards the end the writing becomes more and more basic. If it wasn’t for the 🌶️ scenes I would have thought it was written for children.
Seems silly that there’s already 7 books out but only 2 audiobooks? Looking forward to when they’re released though.
New favourite duskwalker, but hated everything else
