Summary

A gripping new mystery from the author of The Wild Inside, set in the magnificent and brutal terrain of Glacier National Park

In the darkening days of autumn, a murdered journalist's body is discovered in a remote region near the Canadian border. Before she was found, Anne Marie Johnson had been writing an article about a canine research program that uses trained dogs to track scientific data. She was last seen with a man named Reeve Landon, whose chocolate Lab was one of the subjects of the piece. Now he's the prime suspect.

Back in the FBI's regional office in Montana, investigator Ali Paige is not officially assigned to the case since the crime was committed outside federal land. But Landon happens to be an ex-boyfriend and the father of her child. He calls Ali for help while he is being questioning, but soon he goads her to find out what really happened to Anne Marie.

Intensely private and paranoid, Landon ventures deep into in the woods to avoid being arrested. But even as he evades the detectives, Landon secretly feels the whole thing is somehow deserved, a karmic punishment for the horrifying crime he committed as a young boy. As for Ali, she has only one objective in mind: to save her daughter from the pain of abandonment she endured as a child.

As the clock ticks and the noose tightens around Landon's neck, Ali isn't sure how far she will go to find out the truth. And what if truth is not something she wants to know?

Just about worth it

It was a struggle to listen to Therese sometimes she can sound a bit whiny. Christine Carbo should have stuck to her original formula like the first two books. With Monty Harris as the lead role and R.C. Bray reading all of it. Still worth the listen though.

The fourth book continues to
develop new characters linking from the existing. An exciting and interesting story.

Better than anticipated

Based on the summary I decided I’d give this a miss, having read the previous three novels by this author. However, having run out of things to listen to I decided to give it a go. A storyline I hadn’t come across previously added interest. Worth giving it a go.

Narration

This was the best of all 4 books. I listened to them in a row. All good even as stand alone but this was better...

Damn, I’ve come to the end!

I found this wonderful series, set in Glacier National Park by accident. Now I’m hooked. Each book has connection to the previous one but goes somewhere new with the narrative. Well written and conceived and read very well.

A Good Listen

This is another good book by Christine Carbo but not quite as good as the previous two in the series. I didn't warm to the characters as much as in the previous books. Having said that, I was still gripped and listened for hours at a time. The first two books set a very high standard, and although I can say that this 3rd book didn't quite match up, it was still very enjoyable.

Good story with great location

Really enjoyed the story and tracing the stunning settings on a map. The characters were distinct and believable, and were well performed.
