About this listen
Read by Emily Watson (Small Things Like These), Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), and Georgia Maguire.
The worldwide bestseller, over half a million copies sold. A Nearly Normal Family is the stunning psychological thriller from M. T. Edvardsson, which asks what would a parent do if their child was suspected of murder, and just how far they’d go to protect them . . .
'A deceptive and riveting novel' – Karin Slaughter, author of Girl, Forgotten
One night, eighteen-year-old Stella comes home late. The next morning she is accused of murder.
As parents Adam and Ulrika deal with the fallout and try to protect their daughter, they must search out the truth – but how much do they really know about their daughter?
Told from three viewpoints – father, mother and daughter – but who is telling the truth? Perfect for fans of A. J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window or J. P. Delaney’s The Girl Before.
'An absolutely fantastic read' – Jo Spain, author of Don't Look Back
'An utterly compelling premise . . . a layered, intelligent novel' – Fiona Cummins, author of Into the Dark
'A canny, intensely suspenseful legal thriller' – Scott Turow, author of Suspect
'I couldn't go to bed until I finished it. Effortlessly brilliant' – Sandie Jones, author of The Other Woman
'I couldn't put it down' – Michelle Frances, author of The Girlfriend
'An unsettling page turner. Highly Recommended' – Adam Hamdy, author of White Fire

A Nearly Perfect Book
A wonderfully written and plotted book, great narration and a satisfying ending. I loved every minute of it and didn’t want it to end.
If you like Scandinavian crime/police procedural novels with a psychological element at the heart of the plot, then give this a try. I was hooked by the end of the first chapter.

it wasnt a shock, the twist at the end.
it was ok, I liked the way it was written. although it felt like you were being manipulated all the way through to believe one thing and then to be shocked only to find out that it wasnt a shock after all. some interesting insights into family and parenthood though.

Tense thriller
Read beautifully by all three narrators. Having three different narrators worked really well for this book as it helped to make the characters even more believable. Even though there were aspects of each character I didn’t like there was also a lot that was relatable. The power of family connections both real and perceived were dealt with adeptly. It’s difficult to review without giving the plot away but I would highly recommend to others and would certainly look for other books written by this author.

Gripping.
It’s the period at the end of the text that gave him away.

Interesting & fascinating read
An intriguing and fascinating read. An exploration into family dynamics and the bonds we share. A read intellect on justification and when it is right. Would read more.

Gripping
I really liked how the book was set out in 3 parts, from the point of view of three characters. Really well paced and an Excellent story that kept me interested right until the last syllable!

Interesting Tale Of Keeping Up Appearances
This was an interesting story and I liked the different perspectives which allowed the listener to see the truth unfold, one tiny morsel at a time. I really didn’t warm to Stella at all, and found her manipulative and petulant.
Each of the characters had their own secrets and motives for the behaviour. Stella seemed to be in the middle of toxic relationships all around, and I’m on the fence as to how much I could forgive any of them for how they behaved.
I enjoyed the narration of this story, especially the narrator who handles Stella’s character. It was a bit strange at first having three different narrators and I wonder if that impacted on how much I engaged with the story.
This is an interesting tale of how appearances can be deceiving and what happens when boundaries become blurred.

Overlong with unlikeable characters
Can’t really recommend. It started off in a promising way, but the fact that it was so drawn out, unnecessarily in my opinion, spoiled it. It was very hard to like any of the characters and that meant it was hard to engage with the story. Although it tried to have twists, there really was very little plot and it wasn’t difficult to guess the ending… by which time I didn’t really care who'd done what to whom. Sorry, not for me.
