About this listen
Depression is one of the UK’s leading causes of disability. One in four women in their 40s are prescribed antidepressant drugs BUT depression is a sign of malfunction of the body – not in the brain and it can be treated with simple lifestyle interventions.
The UK’s mental well-being is in a state of crisis – psychiatric drugs are overprescribed and the causes of depression and anxiety oversimplified as a genetic and brain malfunction. This book debunks the myths and sets out a natural cure for depression, proving that low serotonin levels are not the primary cause of depression, but that inflammation is the root cause and this can be treated by way of lifestyle changes.
The book explores the truth about depression, including the latest science and how our genes express themselves through the food choices we make, as well as Dr Brogan’s four-week plan with menus. Written in a lively style and laced with compelling scientific proof, this groundbreaking book proves that symptoms of depression are often markers of an underlying problem originating outside the brain which can be effectively treated without pharmaceuticals.

One of the greatest books a woman could read
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
It is read in an easy to understand way.
HOWEVER, having been inspired by the book to try the author's menu plan I was disappointed that this is NOT INCLUDED in the audible version. Customer services confirmed this. I ended up buying the paperback just to get the menu plan.
If the menu plan was available with the audible version I would give this book 5 stars.
Incomplete!

This is the first time I have found a compelling narrative that puts together all the important aspects of health and wellbeing and has enough science backing it up to give the reader real confidence in what is being presented.
It's only a shame that it's presented as being 'for women'. This information is for everyone and very much needed. Thank you Dr Brogan for pushing back against the boundaries of accepted practice and the standard narrative and for bringing this all together. In a more enlightened society this understanding would be instantly transformative. Here's to a world where we can act on advances in scientific knowledge without coming up against the power of big pharma, agribusiness and the rest.
Finally, something that makes sense of it all
