About this listen

Random House presents the audiobook edition of A Match Made in Devon by Cathy Bramley.

Sometimes you have to play a part to realise who you really are…

Nina has devoted her life to making it as an actress; although her agent thinks she’s more best friend than leading lady. But with her onscreen character about to be killed off it might be time for a new role (on and off screen).

Lucky for Nina, life has a way of shoving you in the right direction. A falling out with her agent and his new star client leaves Nina’s life in tatters and her name in the papers. She is left with no choice but to flee the city, leaving nothing but an empty bottle of hair dye and her tiny bedroom behind.

Escaping to the West Country, Nina makes herself useful by helping her friend set up his holiday business in beautiful Brightside Cove. Soon Nina is learning there’s more to life than London and more characters in a small village than on the stage. But she won’t be able to avoid the drama for long, Nina’s star is finally rising and it seems everyone wants a piece of her. So, when a beautiful man (and his adorable dog) catch her eye it’s not long before London and showbiz start to lose their appeal.

But can Nina really trade the bright lights of the Big Smoke for the calming tides of this sleepy seaside town? Especially when – after years of chasing celebrity – it’s finally pursuing her.

Will Nina choose the bright lights or has she met her match in Brightside Cove?

I very much enjoyed listening to this book which featured a typical Devon coastal scene well narrated. Although not a dynamic story, it was easy listening, and great to relax to at the end of the day.

Charming light-hearted read

This book was ok. Unfortunately that's the best I can say. I like this narrator but this time she sounded like she was reading a story to pre schoolers. The story wasn't great either. It was a bit too silly in parts, with some very stupid situations and ridiculous character reactions. I felt no chemistry between the main characters either. I stuck with it for the sake of finding out about the dad and I felt this story line was one that was completely under developed or a wasted opportunity. If you can get it for €3 or on 2 for 1 then get it.

Only ok

During this challenging time, this book was a good escapism and an easy listen. I would recommend if you want your thoughts to drift elsewhere.

I listened as I like some Cathy Bramley books , just finished Ivy Lane and really enjoyed. But this one was a little too long as it didn't seem to be that enjoyable.
The characters were not as interesting as in some of her books, and the plot was slightly dull. Hate giving this review , but it's how I felt. The beginning was good , and had it been more about the b and b ,I think I would have enjoyed it more .

overly long

Loved the characters in this book! The main (female) character evolved into someone admirable during the story's development. The dialogue is amusing, and the narrator differentiates accents pretty well. It would be even better if she had a broader range of tone & timbre so that she could do male voices a bit more convincingly, but it was still very good.

Fun, light story: a fixed-up B&B in coastal Devon

I still can't make my mind up on Coleen Prendergast. Her voice just passes under the irritating line for me, a bit too slow and over enunciated. The story is fun and not too sweet for this genre. The characters are likeable and there's enough going on to keep you interested. Not my favourite Cathy Bramley story but I did enjoy it

easy listening with a decent plot
