Summary

Will the war be over by Christmas?

As the war moves into 1945 the lives of the women of Woolworths continue. When store manager, Betty Billington, announces she is expecting Douglas’s baby her future life is about to change more than she expects.

Freda has fallen in love with the handsome Scottish engineer but will it end happily?

Maisie loves being a mother and also caring for her two nieces although she still has her own dreams. When her brother appears on the scene he brings unexpected danger to the family.

Meanwhile Sarah dreams of her husband’s return and a cottage with roses around the door but Woolworths beckons.

Will our girls sail into times of peace, or will they experience more heartache and sorrow? With a wedding on the horizon, surely only happiness lies ahead – or does it?

A Gift from Woolworths is the fourth instalment in Elaine Everest's much-loved Woolworths series.

A wartime story of family and friends.

These books would make a wonderful Prime mini series. Characters full of warmth and pride demonstrate how family and friends were the backbone of wartime Britain, I loved each story and the narrator brought the feeling if that era to life.

Loved everyone, apart from the very annoying Sarah, such a drama Queen. Looking forward to the next book xx

A gift from Woolworths

Oh what a novel. This book warmed my heart. With knitting in hand and a cosy chair next to the log fire, I was transported to an era I do not know. An era, a shop, and many people who I have come to love from other novels by Elaine Everest.
The last chapter had me wondering if this would be the end of Sarah, George, Ruby, Maisie, Betty , and all the others. It seemed so final. I do hope not! The lives of these people are so very appealing and interesting.
Thank you Elaine For the wonderful book. And thank you Annie Aldington for bringing the characters to life.

Another excellent addition to the Woolworths series

This is the 4th book by Elaine Everest on the lives of friends and family who work in Woolworths during the 2nd world war. I absolutely adored the first 3 and this 4th addition was equally superb. The story remains interesting, the characters warm and it is so good to submerge yourself into their lives with the correct balance of historical facts and fiction. Superbly narrated by Annie Aldington again who’s voice just brings the characters to life! I’ve adored these books and would love more to follow!

Another goodie from Elaine

Reliable, consistent, nostalgic, heartwarming. Another good one from Elaine Everest and The Woolworths Girls saga!

A couple of instances of misplaced emphasis in a sentence from the narrator, and finally an accent she’s not brilliant at – Scottish! LOL.

But on the whole a 5 out of five all round :-)

Another great story

As usual Annie Aldington brings the Woolworths characters alive, I love these stories maybe because I know the area so well, I hope there is going to be another soon.
