About this listen

Born in 1894, Facey lived the rough frontier life of a sheep farmer, survived the gore of Gallipoli, raised a family through the Depression and spent sixty years with his beloved wife, Evelyn. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today, Facey always saw his life as a 'fortunate' one. A true classic of Australian literature, his simply written autobiography is an inspiration. It is the story of a life lived to the full - the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.

I knew parts of this story, but the first time I have read/listened to the book in full. Simply, and beautifully written; I listened to it in just two days.

My only (very slight!) criticism of the performance is the mispronounciation of some place names, as a local would say: Narrogin, Albany, Mundaring.... I found myself saying them aloud every time they were said. Apart from this it was beautifully read and performed.

A wonderful, heartfelt story about a genuine man
