About this listen

A human, a dwarf and an elf walk into a bake-off…

In the heart of Adenashire, where elfish enchantments and dwarven delights rule, Arleta Starstone, a human confectionist works twice as hard perfecting her unique blend of baking and apothecary herbs.

So when an orc neighbor secretly enters her creations into the prestigious Elven Baking Battle, Arleta faces a dilemma.

Being magicless, her participation in the competition could draw more scowls than smiles. And if Arleta wants to prove her talent and establish her culinary reputation, this human will need more than just her pastry craft to sweeten the odds.

While competing, she'll set off on a journey of mouthwatering pastries, self-discovery, heartwarming friendships and romance, while questioning whether winning the Baking Battle is the true prize.

Escape to for a delightful cozy fantasy where every twist is a treat and every turn a step closer to home.

This story is so filled with warmth and sweetness, it made me giggle and smile and squeal like I was a kid falling in love with stories all over again. You wouldn’t believe how long I’ve been searching for a cosy romantasy without spice and with low stakes, especially one that doesn’t feel like it’s only for younger audiences. I’m so so happy this story found me, and I’ll be preordering the next one as soon as it’s ready. I love all the characters and the relationships felt so genuine and just made me really happy.

Low stakes, no spice cosy romantasy that warmed my soul and made me giggle and squeal like I was a teenager again

This was a nice, easy listen but could have done with a hefty edit and also some guidance on the character development and pay off placement. The main character whined for most of the book and I was baffled as to why everyone was so keen to keep her in their lives and support her. She had things explained - and proven - to her time and time again and still insisted on wilfully believing her own version of reality and behaving like a simpleton. I became invested enough by the end of the book that I was pleased when she got her happily ever after but it was touch and go about three quarters of the way through and I very nearly abandoned the book. The supporting characters seemed much more three dimensional to me and enjoyable and they are what kept me going. The author is obviously really talented but an good editor would also help with word choice in some places as in the words of Inigo Montoya 'You Keep Using That Word, I Do Not Think It Means What You Think It Means'. Overall an enjoyable listen and a good introduction to the author's work. As cosy as advertised and you will finish with a smile on your face.

Nice enough

A very cosy, enjoyable fantasy story. It was well read and I enjoyed the extra detail to close off the story though found it a little irritating how long it took for the main character to admit some things to herself at the end! Ha ha ha.

Cosy and well narrated

Having stumbled across the author as part of my FYP, I was intrigued. She writes intelligently and passionately with a good balance of characters, their depth and their interactions.

A wonderful introduction to cosy fantasy

A lovely cosy book perfect for the winter months and for fitting the gap at the end of GBBO left. I love that some actual recipes were included at the end of the book and the vibes were exactly like a warm hook. Highly recommend!
