About this listen
He thinks she's a bossy shrew. She thinks he's rude beyond measure. It's hate at first sight.
England, 1823: Dr. Oliver Somersby is a man caught between two worlds, longing to be accepted--somewhere. The illegitimate son of a wealthy aristocrat and a Romani mother, he carries his shame in secret. Unwilling to commit to a relationship for fear of discovery, the high-and-mighty widow, Camilla Denby is the last person with whom he'd wish an attachment. If only she would stay out of his thoughts.
Years after losing her great love at Waterloo, Camilla is ready to risk her heart again. If only she could find a man who stirs her blood as passionately as her deceased husband. Certainly not that exasperatingly arrogant new doctor. But when she discovers he's the captivating man she met at the masquerade, she's forced to confront her feelings.
As they're continually thrown unwittingly into each other's paths, their protective masks are slowly discarded. And they each learn first impressions are often made in haste. But will Oliver's secret parentage be too great for Camilla to accept, and if discovered will it threaten his very life?
As they fight their way to each other, will they overcome their prejudices to find a lifetime of love?

Loved the narration of Duke DeFoix, and Duchess DeFoix
Camilla, Lady Denby has been a widow for eight years but had decided it was time for her to move on. The first time she meets Doctor Oliver Somersby it did go well, both finding the other rude and annoying. But time can change feelings. Oliver is hiding secrets that he fears, that will cause people to be prejudice to him. Camilla is a woman of character and strength and is perfect for Oliver.

Hopeful for love
Another enjoyable book from Trisha Messmer.
Secrets, pride and prejudices abound as we follow Camilla and Oliver’s story.
Lady Camilla Denby is an independent and forward thinking woman in society, but she has her work cut out when attraction blossoms between her and the new doctor at the Hope clinic, she just can’t get him to open up to her.
Dr Oliver Somersby has a secret past, his lack of trust in people he had become close to, did make me feel like giving him a good shake, but that’s why I just love the Hope clinic series, Trisha gives us real people and that includes their human stupidity at times!
As in the first book it did take me a little while to get into the dual narrative but the dialogue between the characters was very good with believable voices.
I especially loved the scenes with the children which were very entertaining, especially little Pockets, who is just adorable.

A captivating story
This was a very good story, it had such engaging characters. Camilla, Lady Denby had been a widow for eight years but had decided it was time for her to move on. Her first meeting with Dr. Oliver Somersby did not go well to say the least. However, gradually their feelings change. Oliver has many secrets that he fears of revealing because of people’s prejudices. I had a soft spot for little Pockets, Camilla’s ward and he sometimes brought a tear to my eye. This was a captivating bookthat addresses some prejudices that are with us still.
The narrators were excellent, this is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of listening to them and they really bring the story to life. They use different accents and tones of voice for the different parts.
I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
