Summary
Who knew taking my little mage on a date would be so difficult?
With so much change happening at the house—three shifter kids are a lot to handle—Mads and I have been too busy to spend much alone time together. So, I figured a date night was in order.
Too bad every time we try, we have to put a fire out somewhere. At this rate, I’m not sure I’ll ever get to take my mage on a date.
A Date To Impress Him is a fun MM urban fantasy companion novella and meant to be listened to after The Shackles That Hold Us (The Magi Accounts, book two). It’s from Cosmo's perspective and takes place between the second and third audiobooks in the main series. This is a companion novella, not a standalone.

Fun and heartwarming series novella
This is such a great series and I love the chance to read from Cosmo's POV in these companion novellas. Here, he's looking to take Mads on a date and spend quality time with his partner but a mix of events prevent that from happening.
From the first page, Cosmo's love for Mads shines through, as well as the love and protectiveness he has for his pride. There's a good insight into how their relationship has progressed across the series so far with several downright sweet moments, not a word you would have associated with Mads in the beginning. It's also good getting to spend more time with Haiden and others from the pride. They're such a wonderful group of people and show so much affection for each other.
We also have time spent with them whilst at work and seeing more adversity towards non humans. Normally we see how it affects Mads, making him understandably angry but it's a little surprising with how Cosmo reacts to seeing it all first hand, directed at those he loves. I can't wait to see how developments here go with the next book in the series.
A perfect companion piece for the series that fans will love. Any extra time spent with these characters, especially for something as fun as date nights, will always be a bonus.
CJ's narration as Cosmo is fantastic, perfectly conveying the alpha lion's love and care for his pride as well as Mads. I can't wait to hear more!

A great addition to the series
Not a stand-alone. You need to start with book one as the story is a continuation and well worth reading.
Great world-building, and the characters have good backstories. We meet Madeo and Jude, both Magi, who are of the lowest group living in this new world. First, there are Humans, Shifters and then the Magi, the order of society.
Cosmo is the leader of a pride group of cat shifters and the Alpha leader of the task force group, which Madeo and Jude are part of. Cosmo and Madeo, a Shifter and a Magi, are in a relationship, but Cosmo wants Madeo to move into the pride house.
This book's complex relationships between the shifters and Magi are wound effortlessly. Such a great read/listen.
CJ Storm did an amazing job of the narration. I did, however, have to speed up the narration to 1.25 on audible, but this is usual for me.

Dates and Mishaps
A Date to Impress Him is book 2.5 in The Magi Accounts series, a paranormal series set within an alternate earth – things are similar but also extremely different. This book CANNOT be read as a standalone - it's a companion novel to book 2 and will not be understood unless you’ve read the previous books in the series. For my fellow Magi Accounts fans who are up-to-date with the series – oh my, I really enjoyed this addition to the series. Like the previous companion novella (book 1.5), this novella is from Cosmo’s perspective which I really enjoyed. Seeing things through Cosmo’s eyes really helped me understand him better, and just make me love him even more. I liked seeing how the new three shifter kids are integrating with the family, and the obstacles Mads and Cosmo have to work through. The ending was sweet with finally the perfect date for them.
This audiobook was narrated by CJ Storm who does a fantastic job. I enjoyed his narration of the story and thought his performance was spot on. The audiobook production was well done.

A sweet interlude
I've been absolutely loving these slice-of-life novellas in between the main storyline, and this chapter of Cosmo and Madeo's romance was especially sweet. With multiple date attempts, lots of family bonding, a little bit of taragorian action, and all the satisfying emotional connections I've come to love from this series, A Date to Impress Him checked all the boxes for me. Though the Red Cloth investigation didn't feature in this novella, I was intrigued by the idea of pairing teams up to fight taragorians, and it was certainly eye-opening to get to know the McKenna team better. I was also happy to see Haiden and his siblings getting more comfortable with the Ono-Nai pride, even if they still have some trauma to work through. Madeo and Cosmo were as adorable as ever, and I'll never be able to get enough of their silly banter, snuggles, and heartfelt communication. All together this turned out to be one of the most lighthearted and sweet additions to the series, and I'm thrilled I got to experience more of their happy times because I know there's a difficult journey up ahead.

A sweet short story
I recommend reading or listening to The Magi Accounts series from the beginning rather than as a standalone story.
I liked this short story where Cosmo and Madeo, despite their family, try to carve out some time for themselves and date. This is not so easy when something always comes up. I enjoyed the story. I was immersed in the Magi world with all the injustices. There was drama and angst, as well as discrimination. And there is still a painful past to deal with. The world of humans, shifters and magi is set up in an interesting way and there is still daily discrimination against the lowest class. I really like Cosmo, who recognizes these injustices well and who wants to do something about it. Madeo is just adorable. An interesting as well as sweet story.
CJ Storm has also narrated the previous volumes in the series and he did a great job. I love how he brings out Madeo's and Cosmo's personalities. He brought them both to life and I really enjoyed the sweet moments between Cosmo and Madeo.

Great reading!
Mr. Storm made a wonderful job with this book! I enjoyed so much his performance and amazing acting skills. He was perfect bringing Cosmo and Madeo to life and every moment between them was so sweet and cute. It was a delight witnessing how their bond is getting stronger as time passes and this glimpse into Cosmo's POV showed us how he made every day a lot of little things to ensure that Mads feels welcome and loved. This new installment is a beautiful moment into the pride's hopes and dreams, and how they balanced out any bad moments, struggles and difficulties that could happen. I love this series so much and this book was a very wonderful gift.

Purrfectly Magical! Fantastic Story & Narration🎧
This is a fantastic addition to the “Magi Accounts” series, and it is great to be back in this amazing world Michele Notaro created and to spend some time with some of my favorite characters, Mads and his kitty cat, Cosmo. Between work and their ever-growing family, it is getting more difficult for these two to get some alone time, and Cosmo wants to take Madeo on a proper date. But even then, life gets in their way, if it is not one thing, it is another. This novella packs a good amount of story, there is some drama in the workplace, as well as some mishaps with family members but these two just go with the flow and when they get their time together is smoking hot. I love these two, they make a great team and are perfect together. Sadly they are still dealing with prejudices in their world, I am hoping it gets better for them, if it is up to Cosimo I am sure he will do his best to make it happen. Michele Notara, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧And for the wonderful narration, CJ Storm continues to do an amazing job bring these characters to life. His character voices and performances are top-notch and have been consistent throughout the series. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the character’s emotions and projects them into his performance, making you feel every single one. CJ Storm is a versatile voice artist and his narration enhances an already fantastic story to another level. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

Cosmo and Mads
Cosmo wants to take Mads on a date, with the hectic life the 3 shifter Children bring, as well as his Pride. Will he ever get it done, they try and fail, until finally they hit the jackpot. A nice little snippet
