Summary

From bestselling author Clare Mackintosh, A Cotswold Family Life is a humorous, warm memoir of family life in the countryside

I have always loved the Cotswolds. I think I loved them even before I found them, in that half-formed ideal one has of where to put down roots. Somewhere peaceful, green, where the road meanders between drystone walls and from town to town, and a strip of blue bursts from brook to river and back again.

For 8 years, Clare Mackintosh wrote for Cotswold Life about the ups and downs of life with a young family in the countryside. In this memoir she brings together all of those stories - and more - for the first time. From keeping chickens to getting the WI drunk, longing for an Aga to dealing with nits, Clare opens the door to family life with warmth and humour and heart.

Brilliant

A wonderful book and beautifully narrated by the author. Because the chapters are short it's one of those to dip an and out of. What a very sweet family the Mackintosh's are and reminiscent of so many others, Well worth reading or listening to. I loved it.

Excellent read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would look forward to listening to other books by the same author.
The text is read by the author whose speaking voice is excellent - much better than many professional readers I have listened to. Well done!

A breath of fresh air

A wonderful listen. A snapshot of family life with all its ups and downs, fun, laughter and love. A lovely community vibe, made me want to go and live amongst these people in the Cotswolds.
Beautifully narrated by the author, I was sad when it came to an end.

This book could be my life

This is a easy read about any mum in her 40’s 50’s. Every woman must see her self in this book and just sit back and smile before running around last minute with the dog, hover and of course just dreaming of be on time for anything

Didn’t enjoy

Yes it is taken from Clare’s column in Cotswold Life and yes it reads like it. All a bit predictable and glossy. She’s trying too hard to fit the mould and be funny with it. It doesn’t work as a book so I returned it. Stick to fiction Clare.

Awful

Any book that can’t grip me in the first 30 mins isn’t going to cut the mustard. It irritated me so much that I couldn’t continue with the smug and nauseating snotty yummy mummy jaunty tales of idyllic everything a second longer and deleted!

An absolute first for me - and I’ve loved the authors other books
