Summary

Cameron needs a family, and Hannah needs a new life. She accepts Cameron’s offer, marries the lawyer by proxy, and heads for Kansas. It isn’t long after she arrives she discovers her new husband is a deceiving, lying, manipulative man. She dislikes him but has fallen in love with his two darling children. The last straw for her is when she discovers those children aren’t even his.

Is it possible to untangle their mess of a marriage? Is Cameron Hart worth redeeming?

Lies vs Truth!

Oh, I enjoyed this so much more the second time around in the audiobook version.
J. Scott Bennett read this story so beautifully that it was like watching a great movie of it giving me full colour with audio.
I originally read the book earlier this year and this is what I wrote about it:
"What is it with certain people that they feel the need to blatently lie in order to get what they want? I can never fully understand this mentality because in every instance when this happens I see the person constantly having to 'look over his or her shoulder' to make sure no one has found out the truth. It's actually a very sad way to live life that way!
"Enough of my philosophising and on with my review.
"I mentioned my thoughts on lying because that is exactly what Cameron starts out doing and he eventually finds himself wondering whether in fact it would be better to come clean to his new wife or not or would he lose everything he was trying to achieve by doing so.
"This concept was very cleverly written into the story with a very pleasing solution and I am happy to say, a happy ever after ending for four really interesting and most endearing characters.
"The story was such that I just had to keep reading to find out what would in fact happen and whether Cameron could find a way to resolve the mess he was making of his marriage to a fabulous lady."
My review above is based on my own personal thoughts and ideas on this story and it is given voluntarily after first reading an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of the book and now listening to the audiobook version.

Love those kids!

Barbara Goss does it again. She clears my mind and hands me a story that is so worth the listen. Cameron has his sights on being in the senate, but he needs to have a family for his image. What better way than by proxy bride? But wait, he needs children too! The orphan train is a good place to get a couple, but he's not telling his new bride they are adopted. Now when Hannah comes to live with him, the basis of their marriage is set on lies that just keep growing. Can their marriage last? Will she be able to forgive him? And what will happen to the children? This is one of those stories that pulls you in and invests your heart. The relationship between Hannah and the kids is priceless, and their growth under her care just makes you love her. Cameron is harder to like for obvious reasons. But Hannah's faith and influence turned my opinion around. It's a wonderful listen and the kids just stole my heart!

J Scott Bennett is just so perfect for this series. Every time I hear his voice, the stories come alive. He has a vast array of voices, able to give me the adults and turn the scene around and give me a 2 and 5 year old in realistic voices. Always a pleasure to give him a listen.

What a great romance

I have yet to read a book by Barbara Goss, But I didn’t love! This one is no exception. When Marries Cameron by proxy she is determined to be a good wife, but how can you be a good wife to a lying, lowdown sidewinder? She doesn’t know, but what she doesn’t know if she loves “his“ girls and what’s the stay at least for their sake. I know this is a little summary in the book has so much more to it, but it’s hard to do it justice when it is so so good! I highly recommend this book and thought the narrator J Scott Bennett did a great job as always. If you love Christian historical westerns you’ll love this book. Please forgive any grammatical or punctuational errors as I am blind and dictate my review but all opinions are my own.
