About this listen

Detective Norman is out of retirement and back on the beat in a rainy Welsh seaside town. Llangwelli might be short on sunshine, but it's certainly not short on murders . . . Norman is a bit old-fashioned, but he's also willing to learn from his band of misfit recruits.

He's asked to mentor a team of misfits in a sleepy Welsh seaside town. But training has barely begun when a woman's body washes up on the beach at Llangwelli.

It turns out to be local woman Kimberley Lawrence. Missing for over a week, but her husband didn't report her disappearance.

The team's investigation hits a brick wall—no one will talk, and every suspect seems to have an alibi.

Then the discovery of a missing shoe turns the case on its head.

It's going to take all Detective Norman's experience to whip his band of inexperienced misfits into shape to catch a killer.

This absolutely gripping detective mystery full of twists and turns is perfect for fans of Rachel McLean, J.D. Kirk, Pauline Rowson, Elly Griffiths, Matt Brolly and Simon McCleave.

Love the way P.F. Ford writes these books.. and does so without too much repetition from the previous books… you can pick any of them up and read them without feeling like you missed something from the other books.. and yet not be lost on the story either.. just forget about the world while listening or reading them.. and not too taxing on the brain either.

Great distraction from the World

I love the narration and that is how I found the series and then I binge listened to the whole series. The location description just wanted to make me move there. The relationship with the team worked well. I am just completely drawn in.

Bingeable series

I am working my way through the series in order. The key characters are developing book by book. Good narrator and plausible plot line. On to the next one.

Another good book in this series.

Constant use of “said”, very poor editing. The story wasn’t bad but I don’t think I shall continue with this series.

Audible , obviously! Thoroughly enjoyed this , and so pleased
to have finally tracked down the additions to this series .
Good to catch up with the Team ….and follow them through the
outworking of another complex crime .
Hoping this series will continue …..I do enjoy the glimpses into
their private lives as well .

A Satisfying ‘ Read ‘

The storyline is not bad. A bunch of lovey dovey Welsh detectives with an ex London based sergeant somehow politely and caringly stumble their way through a double murder..
The prose is static with far too many passages reading “[…]” said Morgan, “[…]” said Norman, “[…]” said Morgan, “[…]” said Hastings etc. The narrator’s style highlights this weakness making it annoying to listen to at times.
Add to this the decision to make the DS sound like a moron and a DCI who is more like a social worker who likes a bit of mild self flagellation and a passable story is all set up for destruction by poor narration.
I suffered through this book until the end only because Audible would not let me return it for refund.

Badly written, poorly narrated
