About this listen
An accidental marriage, small-town, work-place romance
Carly: I had eight solid goals to get over Dr. Marcus Vaughn—the super-smart, ridiculously handsome surgeon I've been crushing on. And why would I want that?
I don’t, but he has a strict no-dating coworkers policy.
My lack of luck in love gets worse. He hijacks my list for his own, follows me to Vegas, and a prank by our coworkers involving too much alcohol turns into a marriage. Oops!
For a split second, I wonder if this is the chance I’ve been waiting for. Unfortunately, Marcus is determined to end the marriage and set us back in the friend zone.
Is it running away if I spend the next month at home in Sugar Creek, nursing my wounds? Of course not. I consider it a reset—with eight new goals.
Mr. Perfect and all his maddening, selfless, always putting others first ways isn't supposed to follow me.
Marcus: I accidentally married my only friend, Carly, during one drunken night in Vegas. That’s right—doctor by day, accidental husband by night. Carly Fletcher is… everything. She’s funny, stubborn, beautiful, and as frustratingly hard-headed as she is irresistible.
So why am I pushing for an annulment? Simple: between my career, my family’s needs, and a strict no-romance policy, I can’t possibly add more to my plate, especially not with Carly.
But when she runs home to a small town in Vermont, I can’t get her out of my head. I need to see if we have a shot at something real, even if it means facing her entire family and dealing with the well-meaning—and meddling—citizens of Sugar Creek. And if Carly gives me another chance, I’ll do everything I can to keep her by my side this time.
It turns out that maybe I don’t have it all under control… and I’m okay with that.

I really enjoyed the first half of this book. The time Carly and Marcus spent together was so sweet, and having both POV made it so you understood both sides of their relationship. Watching them go from work collagues to friends and then a little bit more was fun to read.
The second half of the book seemed to be too long. Even after they admit their feelings to each other, they still insist on 'dating' and getting to know each other better, even though they spent weeks before going on 'friend dates'. I did enjoy getting to know Sugar Creek. It sounds like a wonderful place to live.
I'm not a fan of interfering mothers in romance, and when the 'Sugar Mommas' start to get involved I was dreading what they might do, but I was pleasently surprised as it was mostly recon.
When they accidentally get married in Vegas, it completely knocks their relationship, and they have to navigate getting to know each other all over again.
I really liked Carly. She was fun and an easy character to like. She didn't let too much drag her down. Marcus was more reserved and kept himself away from forming any kind of relationship.
I liked how the book discussed the mixed race relationship and how that might impact them in the future.
One thing I wanted to address with Marcus is his belief that he had to pay for his twin brother college and all his mothers house repairs, on top of all his own student loans. I mean, did anyone else pay for his schooling? Why were the twins not working themselves and helping pay too? With it being such a huge sticking point that Marcus had to look after them, and one of his main reasons for not being in a relationship, I just felt like someone might have discussed it more... like his mother.
I really enjoyed the narrator. She does both voices but doesn't try to go too deep for Marcus. There was enough difference to know who was speaking and when.
