About this listen

Food has the power to temporarily alleviate stress and sadness, enhance joy, and bring us comfort when we need it most. It's no wonder experts estimate that 75 percent of overeating is triggered by our emotions, not physical hunger. The good news is you can instead soothe yourself through dozens of mindful activities that are healthy for both body and mind.

Susan Albers, author of Eating Mindfully, now offers 50 Ways to Soothe Yourself Without Food, a collection of mindfulness skills and practices for relaxing the body in times of stress and ending your dependence on eating as a means of coping with difficult emotions. You'll not only discover easy ways to soothe urges to overeat, you'll also learn how to differentiate emotion-driven hunger from healthy hunger. Reach for this instead of the refrigerator next time you feel the urge to snack - these alternatives are just as satisfying!

"A thoughtful volume filled with practical solutions for emotional eaters everywhere." (Madelyn H. Fernstrom, PhD, CNS)

I am glad I came across this book with practical advice, strategies and techniques to come with emotional overwhelming in a healthier way. And although emotional overeating is not my main concern (it used to be more of a backup solution for my go-to method of emotional shopping), I still find most methods quite relevant, doable and useful. I do understand that just 1 listen of the book won't change much, but I am going to repeat it with notes and practice, and I hope I manage to form my set of effective and healthy coping skills as a result.

Useful and informative

It was ok. She was cheerful and super positive which was a little annoying. But the 50 techniques are basically variations of mindfulness, meditation, journalling, breathing excercises and visualisation. So, nothing groundbreaking.
The narration was good.

okay

I don’t have a eating problem per say, but I wanted guidance on self care. This book is brilliant for it, a lot of what she said really resonated with me. Very easy to change habits now that I know to recognise the seamless daily triggers. Recommend it for anyone in a busy lifestyle :)

Such a lovely find, very effective tips ❤️

I didn't find any new or original about the information in this book, most of it is common sense but at least it's all in one place.

Common sense, really

Some may find this very helpful but for me I found it incredibly boring.
Nice voice though
Don’t let me put you off if you are at the beginning of your self-awareness journey. I have been on this journey for many years.
Maybe it is good for beginners.
