「聡明な船乗りは、急流を渡るときには、上流へ斜めに舳先を向けて漕ぎ、ちょうど目的とする地点に着くように計らいます。しかし、聡明な船乗りがいつでも迂回するかといえば、そうではありません。波風の激しくない、潮流のおだやかな海を横断するときは、目的地に向けて一直線に舵を取ります。」
