About this listen
Mercer
When my high school crush, Gawain, walks into Fifties diner on that February evening, ten years after walking out of my life, I’m stunned. He's still hot, and I still can't resist him. We share a meal that leads to a whole lot more. But when he reveals the truth he hid ten years ago, I have to face the decision of sending him away forever or living with the hurt he’s caused.
Thought You Were the One is a 6k gay romance short story about second chances, high school crushes, and the power of redemption.

Unexpected
This is really more like a prologue.
It is a second chance story. Ten years have passed when Mercer and Gawain come face to face with each other. Neither expect to discover what has happened to the other. I would have liked this better if it were longer but for a short story is is a good quick read.

A short glimpse
So I'm not completely sure how I feel about this one. I'm thinking it's more a 3.5. While I enjoyed the meet cute and knew it was going to move super fast, it's only half an hour so it has to be fast paced, it was the twist that has me not sure how I really feel about this story and then on top of that was the reaction from Mercer. He was too okay with the twist lol or maybe it's just me, I know I wouldn't have been as chill as him. I enjoyed the snippet of them after that night and I really liked both characters, I feel this would be a good story to flesh out more. As he usually does, the narrator did a great job.

A Unique and Charming Tale
Leave it to Gabbi Grey to put such a unique and clever spin onto a romance. Thought You Were the One packs one heck of a twist as well as a beautiful message. This is one of the things I appreciate so much about this unique author, she never writes the same story twice.
I'm glad Grey published Thought You Were the One in audio because Michael Dean delivers a lovely performance. Well worth a listen!

VERY quick listen
Novella
First time
Virgin MC
Second chance/reconnection
Ultra quick
Mostly single POV
The narration was good.
The questionable consent (overt deception) really missed the mark for me. I didn't feel a desire for it to be longer and I'm not sure if I even got a sense of the authors writing it was a little too quick for me.

A sweet second chance romance (or is it)
On the face of it this is a sweet second chance romance with a former high school crush.
However something happens that throws it firmly into the realms of dubious consent. Because of this I think it needed a much larger word count to deal with the implications of Gwain's actions.
On interesting premise but I needed more to believe in their HEA.

Sweet short story full of second chances
4.25/5 I liked the twist in this short story. It was fun to see these two reconnect and work out what was possible as adults instead of high school students. I liked the themes of forgiveness and redemption and moving forward.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.

Super-short but sweet second-chance MM story
This is a super-short, sweet MM second chance romance with past crushes, long-time absence, unexpected reunion, family issues, secrets, confessions, redemption, and a surprise ending. That's a lot to squeeze into 36 minutes, and I do wish this story had been longer. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the sweet connection that Mercer and Gawain shared. They both deserve an HEA.
The narration by Michael Dean was perfect as always, emotional and heart-felt.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Fabulous performance at least
I feel like the odd one out with my rating but I just don't understand the appeal here. It hurts me to say that cause I normally love this author.
Mercer hasn't seen his crush in 10 years back when neither was out. He stayed and took care of his siblings and the family business after his parents died. His crush's family moved out of country. They run into each other at the diner now that he's back in town.
I really liked Mercer but the dynamic between the 2 felt awkward the whole time. It was obvious to me he was lying to Mercer constantly. It put an odd vibe between them them and for me over powered any developing chemistry and make me not like the other MC. I certainly am not judging them for "getting cozy" without actually knowing much about each other cause that happens lots but this particular plot all seemed absurd to me. This definitely should have been a longer story to make it make sense and to develop realistic chemistry. The ending is a twist and really for me that just made the timeline for this story feel even more cringe and it should have been thought out totally different.
MD did an amazing narration as always. His voice is a pleasure to listen to. Like always he kept a great pace, expressed all the emotions wonderfully, gave all the characters including the side characters their own distinct voice that suited each of them perfectly and he brought the story to life.
