About this listen

It's a sign of Lady Rosalia Armstrong's desperation that she's seeking refuge in a place as rugged and challenging as the Scottish Highlands. She doesn't care about hardship and discomfort, if only she can become master of her own life. Laird Ciaran MacGregor, however, is completely beyond her control....

Ciaran MacGregor knows it's perilous to get embroiled with a fiery Lowland lass, especially one as headstrong as Rosalia. Having made a rash promise to escort her all the way to Glengarry, now he's stuck with her, even though she challenges his legendary prowess at every opportunity. When temptation reaches its peak, he'll be ready to show her who he really is...on and off the battlefield.

Critic reviews

"Roberts' debut features appealing characters and an interesting background of ancient clan feuds and spurned lovers." ( Publishers Weekly)

a sweet story

It's a sweet story, but there were some silly bits!

His reasonings for not marrying are not only paper thin, they're illogical as well.

In those days, all that mattered was legacy/primogeniture & for that he'd need heirs... so, it would be illogical for that to have been his father's request. Aiden does explain it, but he stubbornly holds in to his (illogical) beliefs!

I felt her mother got off scot free... she was vile & really did need her comeuppance, but she got none!

The resolution conflict was too quick with no real stakes, I felt. Both villains were dispatched too quickly & had no time to reflect on their actions.

Having said all that, I did love Ciaran... he was all that was sweet, kind & manly... a bit obtuse as well!

Rosália was a mixed-bag for me... she started off as a woman in charge of her own destiny & she quickly devolved into a quivering mess...

I do get that she suffered horrendous abuse, but in those situations, people develop coping mechanisms, otherwise they don't/can't survive... she started off as a fighter & then kinda became a ninny... everything was a major issue, even mounting a horse.. doesn't matter how big you may be, someone else can ALWAYS give you a leg up, especially if said person is built like a mountain!

Also her misunderstanding in the crofter's lodge was irritating... she just became far too self-pitying for lack of a better word, at all times & it did start to grate after a while.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
