Oh sorry, we haven’t been properly introduced. I’m Evangeline Midnight, and one month ago I was just your average teenage girl. An aspiring tattoo artist ready to graduate high school and go to university. Then we botched a séance, my mother went missing and some powerful necromancer flooded the streets of New Orleans with zombies.
Oh well, you know what they say: Let the Good Times Roll.
This is book one in a fantasy romance series where there are six guys—well, five supernatural guys and one demon, and no choosing required! Expect laughter, action and everything from faeries, vamps, dragons and shifters to demons, ghosts, and witches. *Kitchen sink excluded.

Story-wise, it was as 3-stars as it can get. The writing feels disjointed, with the heroine’s stance on magic constantly changing. She can accept magic is real when it comes to the seer grandmother and her predictions, including her own astral projecting and the whole waterfall thing. But when faced with other types she’s all “impossible!”.
The heroine is also hard to like, as she is such a tropey character: she’s super hot, a brilliant student, a genius artist and super powerful to boot. However, she’s stupid enough to openly state she’s not a damsel in distress, while wandering off without informing the people who openly care for her about it during very dangerous situations. She is deeply unlikeable, at points unforgivably annoying.
That also makes it harder for me to believe the relationship with the guys. Everyone is clearly in lust with her, as the book is constantly reminding us of the raging hardons the guys sport every time they share any space with her, but I read this genre to see characters fall in love, which looks a lot different than this.
The banter I am mostly fine with. At no point was it witty, more often than not falling onto the corny side of things, but I did enjoy some moments. The plot… I’m still not sure what to think of it. There are a lot of plot threads, but the one I care about the least has to be the zombie one. I don’t consume a lot of zombie-related media but the way they acted here somehow never felt like a believable threat to me. I feel a rotting hoard should be easy to spot long before they make their way into any populated area, let alone a club. But there’s a chance I missed something about the Necromancer making the zombies somehow invisible until they reached their goals. Sorry, I just couldn’t find it in me to care.
But all in all I didn’t hate this, and am not against listening to more of it since it does have potential, but I would be prefer to check the author’s other works in search of a more likeable cast and tighter writing.
