Falling, I Breathe In, Rising, I Breathe Out

How to Reset and Restart on the Path to Awakening

By Bodhishunya

Have you ever felt like you’ve failed as a practitioner?

You missed a sit. You broke a precept. You got angry. You drifted from your path. And somewhere inside, a voice whispered: “Maybe I’m not cut out for this.”

This is the book for that moment.

In Falling, I Breathe In, Rising, I Breathe Out, contemplative writer and long-time meditation practitioner Bodhishunya offers a heartfelt companion for those who have stumbled on the path—and are ready to return.

Drawing on thousands of hours of lived meditation practice and grounded Buddhist insight, this honest and compassionate book reminds us:

The path isn’t about perfection. It’s about presence.

We fall. We breathe. We rise. And we begin again.

Through gentle chapters, reflective gathas, and a practical toolbox for real-life spiritual resilience, this book offers guidance for:

Returning after a fall—with softness, not shame

Reconnecting with the breath in moments of inner chaos

Working with the inner critic and cultivating self-forgiveness

Walking with the precepts—even when you break them

Trusting that you are still changing, even when it feels like you’re not

Whether you are new to meditation or years into your journey, this book will meet you where you are—with kindness, clarity, and the quiet encouragement to simply begin again.

You haven’t failed. You haven’t fallen off the path.

This—right here, right now—is still part of the way.

Falling, breathe in. Rising, breathe out. This is enough.

As someone that has previously practiced mindfulness here and there, this book was a gentle reminder that no matter how busy or fast paced life gets, you can always restart and continue practicing mindfulness from where you left off.
Throughout listening to this book, I found myself automatically starting to become mindful again within my daily routines. I started to remember what becoming one with the present felt like again. Anytime I had a negative thought or before I acted in a negative way, the authors readings resonated in my head.
The book was read in a very mellow and comforting tone, perfect for listening to when driving, going for a walk or winding down in the evenings.
I would highly recommend this book to those that are beginners to mindfulness and meditation, all the way to the intermediate practitioners.
This book is your reminder that the path will always welcome you back without judgement!

This book is a very relatable and much needed reassurance to all of us who practice meditation but feel like failures in life when we 'slip up' and struggle to maintain a sense of zen at all times. Whilst many books in the spirituality genre focus on meditation techniques and the shiny side of spirituality, this book is a real comforting read that can just sit with us through the lows and struggles and gently encourage us to try again. I've not come across any book like this before and we need more like this, reminding us that it's okay to be human! Gently delivered and a good pace of narration too.

A much needed reassurance for meditators
